In this issue we talk about our upcoming garage sale, volunteer updates, meet Maggie (a long time volunteer) and Munchlax our featured creature, as well as learn more about chipmunks!

A Message From Our Director

Hello everyone!
This Fourth of July again reminded us why we need a new location. We ultimately lost 15 animals due to the fireworks in our neighborhood this year.

We want to thank all of our neighbors that allowed themselves to be educated and chose to be courteous.

We want to thank Taproot, Sam’s Club, and 5th Season for their fundraising and volunteer support this past month.

As we approach the first anniversary of our rebrand to All Creatures Deserving, we are planning some new and exciting efforts to expand our brand and impact. Stay tuned for more this month!

Garage Sales Updates

August 18-20, 2023

Last call for donations! We are getting ready for our final garage sale of the year. We have a TON of great items so hope you’ll join us if you can. We are also looking for hands on support for the days leading up to the sale. Let us know if you are able to help out.

Seeking Volunteers

As with all non-profits, much of our support comes from volunteers like the ones we feature in our newsletter. A lot of effort goes into training and trusting volunteers, so it can be devastating when they don’t show up.

We have been focusing this month on improving our efforts to support and celebrate volunteers. We are looking for individuals to support the following roles:

Animal Care Volunteers (on-site) - the front lines of our organization that help care for our animals on a daily basis.
Operations Volunteers (hybrid or fully remote) - as a growing organization, there is plenty to do to keep the brand up and keep the lights on.
Manual Labor Volunteers (on-site) - there is always something to be fixed, carried, or transported. Big trucks are welcomed!

Meet Maggie

Volunteer since: 2020

Favorite Animal: “I’d have to say the groundhog. When I started volunteering with ACD there was a groundhog named Asher that I grew very attached to. It was bittersweet when he was released.”

What do you like about volunteering: “I think people don’t realize how intertwined we really are with wildlife. I love having that connection to the animals. I feel blessed to work with Liz as she is truly gifted when it comes to this work.”

Fun Fact : “As a retiree, I enjoy finding any adventure that allows me to learn more about myself. You can often find me out riding around on my motorcycle, enjoying the outdoors.”

Creature Feature

Munchlax the Woodchuck
Species: Woodchuck/Groundhog
Age: 3 months old
History: He was brought in solo as a lil bebe.
Status: He just moved to outdoor enclosures for pre-release.
Fun Fact: Another litter of woodchucks joined Munchlax during rehab and are all named after Pokémon characters.

Fun Facts about Chipmunks

One chipmunk can gather as many as 165 acorns a day.

A chipmunk can jump about three feet in the air, not quite as high as the rest of their squirrel family.

Male chipmunks are called “bucks” and females are called “does”, like deer.

Merch Feature

This month we are featuring a collaboration with 5th Season, a local nature inspired art shop. For the remainder of July, a portion of all their online sales will be donated to All Creatures Deserving. In the months ahead, they will be featuring the residents at All Creatures Deserving, and a portion of sales will go directly to helping these critters get back on their feet. Thank you Tom and 5th Season!
